Who we are
PottersBar.Vision was founded around 2020–2021 by local residents concerned about development proposals for the former Potters Bar Golf Course on Darkes Lane. Since then, we have grown to represent thousands of supporters across the town.
We are ordinary residents — people who live in Potters Bar, use its open spaces, and want to ensure that decisions about the town's future are made properly, with full evidence, through a transparent process.
We have no affiliation with any political party and no special expertise. We receive no funding from developers, landowners, or commercial organisations. We are supported entirely by donations from local residents who share our concerns.
What we stand for
- Good planning that serves the whole community
- Proper evidence and transparent decision-making
- Respect for Green Belt policy and flood risk protections
- Housing development in the right places, at the right scale
- A positive vision for the former golf course that works with its constraints
What we don't stand for
- Blocking all development in Potters Bar — we support housing where it is appropriate
- Opposition for its own sake — we campaign on evidence, not sentiment
- Any political party or commercial interest
- Ignoring other planning issues in the town — though our resources focus on the golf course
Our scope — town-wide, but focused
PottersBar.Vision cares about planning quality across the whole of Potters Bar — not just on one site. We encourage residents to engage with all planning consultations that affect the town, and we link to resources that help them do so.
We focus our own detailed research and campaigning on the former golf course because it is exceptional in scale and complexity:
- It is one of the largest single proposed developments in the entire Hertsmere Local Plan — 40.2 hectares, 550 homes applied for
- It sits entirely in the Green Belt and has never previously been allocated for development
- It has documented, serious flood risk with a single flood-prone vehicular access
- It has a live planning application AND a Local Plan allocation simultaneously, both requiring objections on different timetables
- The volume and complexity of the technical evidence requires focused, sustained effort
If you are concerned about other development proposals in Potters Bar, we encourage you to engage with those too. The Hertsmere planning portal allows anyone to comment on any current application.
Where we are now
The situation has changed significantly since the campaign began. There is now both a live planning application (26/0427/OUTEI, for 550 homes) and an ongoing Local Plan consultation (HPBA SA13, proposing 400 homes). Both require separate representations. Both are open now.
PottersBar.Vision is submitting detailed formal objections to both processes. We are now asking the community to add their voices.
Get in touch
We welcome enquiries from residents, journalists, councillors, and anyone with an interest in the campaign. If you have evidence, expertise, or local knowledge that could help, we'd love to hear from you.
